YOGA FOUND ME AND I FOUND MY WAY

I have been practicing Yoga since 1996 but didn't really commit to the practice until I took my first teacher training at Jaya Yoga Center in 2011.  I have struggled for decades with chronic back and knee pain.  Even with all the asana practice I put in, I would sometimes find my pain so debilitating it would keep me from exercising for weeks. In 2009, I found my way into one of Sarah Powers Yin Yoga Workshops at a  New York City Yoga Journal Conference.  It was there I recognized I had forgotten one important piece of yoga....

“Practice what you love, but also practice what you find difficult.”

The stillness practice that Yin brought forth changed everything for me.  My studies with Sarah and Ty Powers through the Insight Yoga Institute and with Jo Phee of Yinspiration have lead me to look at stillness, movement, meditation and breath work with a more medicinal mindset. It is here that I have found a deeper understanding of my body, my mind, and my practice. Adding in Qi Gong and meridian exercises has shown me that my unique anatomy offers its own personal cues that I may not have tuned in to had I not been given the gift of being still.
